Strong in superfinishing

Honing & Superfinishing stones

For the finishing and dressing processes, ATLANTIC can offer both honing and superfinishing stones, which not only produce the finest surfaces and/or precisely defined surface structures with optimised size and geometric accuracy, but also guarantee a high stock removal rate.

Honing

As a result of pre-machining operations, workpieces generally exhibit geometrical inaccuracies, which can only be eliminated by honing. In this process the uneven sections (peaks and valleys) are eliminated as a result of continuous contact between the workpiece and honing stone. Roundness errors are corrected by the honing stone coming into contact with a large area of the workpiece. Honed surfaces have a high bearing area and are extremely resilient.

Identification of Honing stones

An alphanumeric code specifies the ATLANTIC products. A complementary combination of test procedures ensures compliance with the specification. Documentation of this data ensures traceability and the ability to reproduce the ATLANTIC product. Synthetically produced hard crystalline materials are used almost exclusively as the abrasive. The most common conventional abrasives include corundum (aluminium oxide) and silicon carbide.
