Surface / face grinding with segments

This special form of face or surface grinding is particularly used for machining extremely large, flat surfaces. In order to obtain the greatest possible contact with the surface, the rotating grinding head is equipped with several abrasive segments.

A vast array of segment shapes, dimensions and designs can be produced depending on the configuration of the machine. The number of segments in a setup is also extremely varied.

Vitrified aluminium oxide segments in hardness grades ranging from H to D and grit sizes from 24 to 54 are predominantly used in this process.

Extremely high cutting volumes result in high G-factors

The extremely high cutting volumes usually produced in this grinding process and the use of microcrystalline sintered aluminium oxide often result in very high G-factors (ratio of machined material to segment wear).
