Gear tooth grinding

As the gear tooth grinding process involves a relatively high contact area between the workpiece and the grinding wheel, it is extremely sensitive to thermal damage (grinding burn).

Therefore, very porous, vitrified bonded aluminium oxide grinding wheels are predominantly used in this process.

High demands on the profile retention attributes

In contrast, however, extremely high demands are also placed on the profile retention attributes of the grinding wheel, as the profile of the tooth flank has a significant influence on the smooth running properties and rolling resistance of the component in which it is integrated.

The combination of a cool grinding process and high wear-resistance is a particular challenge for gear tooth grinding that requires a great deal of experience and manufacturing expertise on the part of the abrasives manufacturer.
