Long stroke honing

In the long stroke honing process one or more honing stones are held in a so-called honing head either by gluing or by clamping. This honing head rotates around its own longitudinal axis and is also subjected to an additional linear feed in a long-stroke oscillating motion.

In addition to the long stroke honing of inner diameters, the process is also used in honing outer diameters

The most important application is the long stroke honing of cylinder liners and cylinder bores in engine blocks. Various other applications include pipes in the petroleum industry, hydraulics industry, etc.

In addition to the long stroke honing of inner diameters, the process is also used for various applications in honing outer diameters, such as larger hydraulic cylinders.

The choice of abrasive grain, grit size and bond for a suitable honing stone primarily depends on the grinding allowance, surface finish and the material being machined.
