Centreless plunge grinding

This grinding process is used whenever the workpiece is unsuitable for through-feed grinding due to its geometry. (e.g. caused by an array of different outer diameters).

In terms of its basic structure it corresponds to the centreless through-feed grinding process in many aspects. In plunge grinding, however, material removal is realised by a tangential feed of the grinding wheel.

Higher concentricity and dimensional accuracy

Due to the triangular arrangement of the workpiece between the grinding wheel, guide and control wheel, it enables a much higher concentricity and dimensional accuracy to be achieved.

Vitrified bonded aluminium oxide grinding wheels are predominantly used in this process.
